The Opportunity
Play9 Sports emerged as one of the fastest-growing tournament operators in the Midwest, building a strong regional presence through high-quality events, trusted relationships, and consistent execution.
The opportunity for Capacity Sports Group was not to replace that success—but to amplify it. The goal was to integrate a proven regional operator into a national platform without losing the local identity, relationships, and operational excellence that made it successful.
The Approach
Capacity Sports Group acquired Play9 Sports as part of its strategy to unite best-in-class regional operators under a fully integrated platform.
Rather than centralizing or restructuring the business, CSG maintained Play9’s leadership and operational model, keeping founders Matt Stembridge and Jimmie Louthan in place, while layering in national infrastructure across technology, scouting, media, and event programming.
This approach preserves local trust while expanding visibility, scale, and performance.
Why it works
The addition of 65 fields across five markets, combined with Plummer Family Park (8 turf fields), significantly expands CSG’s footprint in the St. Louis region and surrounding Midwest.
